Croesyceiliog eclipse Blaenavon Blues ‘A’ with a second half goal blitz.

As with most age groups there are generally two or three teams that, through a combination of luck
( in attracting good players) and good coaching , gradually and inevitably, emerge to separate themselves from the other teams in their division. Blaenavon ‘A’ are one such team and are a well coached and a physically durable team who always play on the front foot , so it was very pleasing to come out on top today. The first half of the game was a real rollercoaster with Croesyceiliog scoring three early goals and then concede four in 20 minutes to trail by 3-4 at the break !

In the second however, half it transpired to be a different story with Croesyceiliog netting 6 times without reply. With Max West missing today through illness, an obvious concern would be that we would miss his ability to break the game up and protect us with his tackling, but all of our substitutes combined to cover his absence very responsibly . Constantly changing the line up around , gave our opponents plenty to think about tactically including having our Centre Forward in goal for the last quarter.

This team has ability in spades - I think those who watch us know that, but it was their character that shone through today - to ‘help each other’ , ‘do your job well’ and to accept their mistakes as a vital part of the learning process , against a strong team in Blaenavon . As their coach I was very proud of what they delivered today and the club should be too.
